Bay Street Theater, the non-profit professional theater and community cultural center in Sag Harbor, New York, plans to open its first purpose-built house later this year with completion by 2023 .

Roger Ferris + Partners will design the venue, while Charcoalblue will design the theatrical elements. The project will be built on a site at the entrance to Sag Harbor that operates continuously with John Steinbeck Waterfront Park, transforming a linear shopping center into a community resource.

The center will include a main theater with additional fixed and flexible spaces, including a space dedicated to the organization’s year-round educational programs for children and adults, a center for the development of new work, a shop and a storage of landscapes, special events and professional development initiatives.

The nonprofit Friends of Bay Street Theater, headed by Adam Potter, was formed to oversee the development of the site, including land acquisition, fundraising, fundraising and design.

Executive Director Tracy Mitchell said: “This is a lifelong dream both for the founders of the Bay Street Theater and for myself as current Executive Director. It will not only provide the space for creative growth, but secure the future and legacy of Bay Street with a permanent home.

Artistic Director Scott Schwartz added, “I know this magnificent new installation will allow Bay Street to continue the exciting artistic growth we have enjoyed over the past few years. This will make the company an even more versatile home for an ever-growing family of new and established voices in theater and allow us to provide expanded educational programming for children and adults in our community. We couldn’t be more excited.
