Broom Street Theater Auditions – Isthmus

press release: Want to be in a future show at Broom Street? We have auditions coming up!

Attack of the Killer B’s by Sean Abley

Directed by Karl Reinhardt

Presented at the Broom Street Theatre, from March 25 to April 16, 2022

AUDITION DATES: December 12, 13, 14, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center, 953 Jenifer St, Madison.

If you are unable to meet these audition dates/times but would like to be considered, please contact the director with sufficient time to be seen prior to these audition dates. The auditions will be readings of the script and other materials. No portraits or monologues will be required, but they will not be refused either.

Please arrive with an exuberance of energy and a willingness to be ridiculous. Some familiarity with the insanely bad acting styles of camp/cult/horror movies of yore (Plan 9 From Outer Space, Reefer Madness, Invasion of the Body Snatchers…you get the idea) and the ability to imitating them is useful. Alright, if you have a Chekhov monologue you really want to play, that’s fine, but you’ll be asked to do it like you’re being eaten by zombies.

Attack of the Killer B’s, first performed at Chicago’s Factory Theater in 1993, is a campy, fast-paced homage to beloved B horror and cult films. It follows Barbara and her brother Glen/Glenda as they battle zombies, pod people, freezing monsters, women in prison, a burned maniac in a dream state, a Shape wearing a hockey mask in a camp summer and her mother, a psychotic motel manager and her mother and a fifty foot woman. Barbara and her brother are in trouble!

Over thirty characters will be played by 12-16 actors of all adult ages, ethnicities and gender expressions. All actors will play multiple roles except those playing “Barbara” and “Glen/Glenda.” Actors must be at least eighteen years old and have completed high school. Rehearsals will take place from Sunday to Wednesday evening from February 13. Please be aware of holidays/spring break that may occur during rehearsals or production dates.

COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS. Auditions will be in person. In the event that we are under a health-related mandate, we will follow all local and CDC guidelines for attendee safety. As of this writing, this may include proof of vaccination at the time of audition and/or masks worn in some capacity.
