Community Theater and Illuminated Displays Helping to Keep the Season Bright | News from the community of St. Tammany


Despite an ever-changing holiday season in response to the COVID-19 landscape, organizers and sponsors have managed to keep a number of special events on the St. Tammany Parish roster.

Customers should check official websites and Facebook pages to familiarize themselves with the pandemic safety procedures required by each event, as well as to determine if any last minute schedule changes have been made.

At the time of going to press, the following events were scheduled:

“Southern fried funeral” December 11 and 12 at the Cutting Edge Theater, 767 Robert Blvd. at Slidell. The 8 p.m. shows entertain with a loving and hilarious look at southern manners and traditions. Located in Mississippi during the funeral week of Dewey Frye, who fell dead telling a joke at a Rotary meeting. This is a relaunch of a coin previously canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Hilarious Phil Olson “A crooked Christmas carol” will be performed at the Slidell Little Theater from December 11-13 and December 18-20. The comedy, a West Texas-style parody of the Dickensian classic, is a fundraiser, not a regular season show. Membership tickets $ 12; others, $ 16. “A New Year of Legends” at the Cutting Edge Theater on December 31 will help patrons ring in 2021 with three non-stop hours of tributes – from three different artists – to musical legends Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and more. DEGAZ EXHIBITION: The St. Tammany Art Association is presenting the Degas Pastel Society’s 18th Biennial National Exhibition through January 30 at the Miriam Barranger Gallery of the Arthouse, 320 N. DEMO DEGAS: A pastel demonstration will be led by Degas Pastel Society board member Alan Flattmann from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on December 12 at 320 N. GASTRONOMY: December 11 is the last day to buy raffle tickets to win an oenological and gastronomic experience for a dinner for four to six people prepared at home by chef Trey Herty, from Abita d’Artigue market and formerly from August restaurant.

ADOPT: On December 12, the St. Tammany Animal Shelter will be hosting a “Holiday Home Adoption Event” at Baldwin Subaru located at 1730 US 190 N. in Covington from 10 am to 2 pm.
