KSST Radio has long played a supporting role in the local theater, dating back to the founding in 1978 of the Sulfur Springs Community Players. Currently, the players’ building, the Main Street Theater, needs some repairs and renovations to be able to reopen and resume performing seasons for audiences. We hope to bring future reports on the repair process and fundraising efforts. The group publishes a series of “Save Our Theater” posts on the Main Street Theater Facebook page that highlight past performances and public events made by The Players, held in the KSST Channel 18 television archive. These appear with instructions on how you can donate online to “Save Our Theater”. The theater building is currently closed, however, monthly board meetings and theater selection committees are held regularly and efforts are underway to secure funds to complete the necessary repairs and renovations, in particular to the facade of the building. According to MST Board Chair Lyndie Mansfield, “The purpose of the Save Our Theater posts on Facebook is to raise the funds needed to rebuild the front, back and partial sidewalls of the building facade, which has deteriorated due to age. Completion of this repair project is necessary for the safety of customers and passers-by, and for the Main Street Theater to continue to bring live community theater arts to the local community. ” If you want to donate online, please click here.
