AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) – The Hilmar Cheese Company today presented the town of Dalhart with a check for $ 250,000 to build an amphitheater at the Rita Blanca Recreation Center.
Being a large city company working with dairy farmers in the Panhandle, the President and CEO of the Hilmar Cheese Company, David Ahlem, wanted to give back to the community.
“Our desire is to make life better and therefore to make it a great place and a great place to live and Hilmar a great place to work, we believe investments like this allow us to do that. “said Ahlem.
The amphitheater is part of a larger project to make the Rita Blanca Leisure Center a more centralized site for the community to enjoy the events.
Dallam and Hartley counties and the town of Dalhart have been working on this project for years, and with the closure of the town’s old cinema six years ago, the amphitheater will have several purposes.
“If our high school wants to do their one-act plays on outdoor melodramas, concerts in the park, we can organize it for screenings so that we can do outdoor films in the park in the summer,” he said. Dallam County Judge Wes Ritchey said.
Other projects that will take place at the recreation center include the addition of a playground and a paddling pool for the enjoyment of the children.
$ 350,000 is spent on these projects funded by grants from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and local organizations.
Local authorities estimate that the amphitheater can accommodate 400 people when built.
They hope that construction on all projects will be completed by the summer for the public to enjoy.
