Pacific Amphitheater reopens with OC Brew Hee Haw at OC Fair – Orange County Register

Morale was high on Friday night as music and beer lovers lined up for the first of three OC Brew Hee Haw Roundup craft beer tasting sessions at the Pacific Amphitheater at the OC Fair in Costa Mesa.

The annual event, which served as the official kick-off for the 2021 Pacific Amphitheater season, is hosted by Brew Ha Ha Productions, based in Orange County, and has drawn hundreds of customers ready to sample a variety of local, regional and national brewery craft beer offerings.

In recent years, the event has moved inside the OC Fair but finally settled inside the Hangar. However, due to the limited capacity of the OC Fair this year and the uncertainty surrounding what COVID-19 restrictions would be in place when it opened, Brew Hee Haw was first transferred to Pacific Amphitheater.

Pop-up brewery tents were scattered across the different levels of the venue and spaced near the entrance where guests could also munch on fair trade foods such as street tacos, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, doggies. giant corn and mounds of fried fries with piping hot cheese sauce on top. While the layout of the event gave plenty of room for people to move around, the narrower sections of the amphitheater could get crowded around the more popular breweries. But for the most part, people have given themselves space. Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies were on hand, encouraging carpooling options while offering free breathalyzer tests at a booth.

The orchestra seats and the pit were left open for fans to relax and enjoy music from the Orange County, Burritos-based Sublime Tribute Band. Back-to-back tasting sessions on Saturday will feature sets from the Fleetwood Mac Tribute, Twisted Gypsy and the Billy Idol Tribute, Idol X.

There were a variety of offerings including double and triple IPAs, stouts, and Hefeweizens. As it is summer there was also a great selection of fruity sour, cider and seltzer selection which quickly fell on a warm and balmy evening in Costa Mesa.

Refreshing products include San Diego’s modern-day Bubble Party Grapefruit Seltzer Water, a lighter, not too sweet but not too acidic seltzer that seems perfect for sipping poolside. Both worms offered by Julian Cider were popular, including Black & Blue Knockout Blueberry & Blackberry Cider and Freaky Tiki Exotic Pineapple & Lime Juice Cider. Each sample was full of flavor and tasted like a dessert.

The Dog Park Brewing Company in San Juan Capistrano had the Juicy Crush: Apricot, a sour-fruited goose made with mashed apricot and just the right amount of pie and sweet. Rad Beer Co. of Anaheim, co-owned by Cameron Collins of Brew Ha Ha Productions, poured out their Foggy Talk Double Misty IPA, which has hints of mango and orange – and an 8% ABV. Broken Timbers Brewing Company, which is also based in Anaheim, had their tasty Calico Blonde on tap that paired well with a trio of spicy chicken tacos.
