The Pantochino Teen Theater will present the The Musical SpongeBob at the new SHU Community Theater in downtown Fairfield. Co-producers Bert Bernardi and Jimmy Johansmeyer have announced three performances, August 6-7.

The stakes are higher than ever in this vibrant musical, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the utter annihilation of their underwater world. Chaos erupts. Lives are on the line. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises and takes center stage. The power of optimism can truly save the world!

The Musical SpongeBob is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and TI, and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The music production was originally conceived by Tina Landau.

The cast includes thirty-three young actors from Milford, Cromwell, Stratford, Orange, Fairfield, West Haven, East Haven, Trumbull, Shelton, Trumbull, Woodbridge, Ansonia, Monroe, Seymour and Madison.

“We are delighted to share this energetic new musical with our cast from Teen Theater,” said Bernardi. “In history, the fate of the world is at stake, what more ‘at the moment’ than that? ” he added.

Sponsored by Milford Bank and the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, the musical is produced through special arrangements with Concorde Theatricals, New York City.

The Pantochino Teen Theater allows young actors to work with professional directors and designers outside the academic framework, according to a schedule corresponding to that of the professional summer theater. The Musical SpongeBob was cast, learned and repeated in ten immersive repetitions. Bernardi directs the show with Justin Rugg as musical director and Becki Walter, choreographer.

The SpongeBob Musical performances are Friday August 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday August 7 at 1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tickets and information are available online at www.pantochino.com
