Port Macquarie Hastings Council has released the design concept for the Town Beach Outdoor Amphitheater as a continuation of the Town Beach Master Plan. This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Public Spaces Legacy Scheme.

The amphitheater will be located between Town Beach and the adjacent holiday park and will expand the recreational and cultural possibilities of the reserve.

It is designed for small-scale community events and activities, such as outdoor performances, markets and school choirs. It will also serve as an informal space for creatives, playgroups, meetings, picnics.

The concept has an integrated appearance with Town Beach Park and its surrounding neighborhood. It comprises four 3.5m grassed levels, held together by large sandstone blocks and will use the adjacent grassed areas as an informal stage.

Group Manager, Community Lucilla Marshall explains that a key part of the design is to provide a community event space with improved footpaths, power supply, stormwater management works and tree plantings. landscaping.

“Our goal is for this project to meet the expectations of the community and be fit for purpose – while providing good value to the community,” she said.

“It is also possible that the site will be used by larger events such as music and community festivals – but these events will be subject to their own development approvals, with specific conditions – particularly around noise.”

“We anticipate this theater to be an incredible addition to the Town Beach area, bringing with it a tremendous amount of opportunity for both locals and tourists.”

A noise assessment report has been prepared for PMHC by RCA Australia for the proposed outdoor amphitheater to ensure that noise impacts are relatively low for Town Beach residents.

PMHC has begun the community comment period, which begins Monday August 8th and is open until Monday August 22nd. People can give their opinion and feedback using the Give Feedback page.

There will also be a pop-up information session at Town Beach Park, to the right of the exercise equipment on Saturday August 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and an online information session on Tuesday August 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. .

Following community engagement, PMHC will develop a plan to review how the amphitheater and the entire compound should function.

The amphitheater is expected to be completed by March 2023, weather permitting.
