NEW ULM — Eighteen volunteers descended on the State Street Theater from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to “Happy Saturday.”

The end result was that the tall gym/stage windows got their first bath in perhaps decades; their blinds are repaired and cleaned; every wooden seat on the lower level and on the balcony has been treated with a Murphy Oil Wash; other interior windows washed; new signage put in place; and restored order to various closets and spaces. The event ended with a well deserved pizza dinner. “It was a great way for me to get to know some of the SST volunteers first hand,” Sandra Juni, new executive director, said. “They, and others like them, are the lifeblood of theatre.”

While the massive enterprise has made a huge dent in the “To do” list, another embellishing event will be scheduled in the near future.
